Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off six Vande Bharat trains from Tatanagar Junction Railway Station today around 10 a.m., the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced.
"The Vande Bharat portfolio is ever-expanding with new train services being added for enhanced connectivity," the statement read.
Designed under the 'Make in India' initiative, the Vande Bharat trains offer cutting-edge features that deliver "luxury and efficiency to millions of passengers,” the release said.
The new routes include Tatanagar-Patna, Brahmapur-Tatanagar, Rourkela-Howrah, Deoghar-Varanasi, Bhagalpur-Howrah, and Gaya-Howrah.
The Railway Ministry emphasised the benefits, stating, "With faster commute times, advanced safety features, and world-class amenities, Indian Railways is setting new benchmarks in travel."
Indian Railways is undergoing a transformation, expanding its Vande Bharat fleet, which the ministry called a “cornerstone of the nation’s transportation infrastructure.”
These semi-high-speed trains, the ministry added, "symbolise India's ambition for a modern, efficient, and world-class rail system."
First introduced on February 15, 2019, the Vande Bharat trains can reach speeds up to 160 km/h. "As of September 14, 2024, the Vande Bharat fleet has 54 trains, has completed around 36,000 trips, and carried over 3.17 crore passengers," the ministry stated.
The upgraded Vande Bharat 2.0 offers features like faster acceleration, the Kavach safety system, anti-virus measures, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
"These trains not only reflect the success of the 'Make in India' initiative but also set new global standards for speed, safety, and service," the ministry added, highlighting how Indian Railways is "on a path to revolutionise travel in India."
