The conversation, which took place via telephone, emphasised the need for continued diplomatic efforts and highlighted Russia’s stance on the conflict.
During the discussion, Putin shared his views on the policies of the Kyiv authorities and their Western allies, stressing Russia’s approach to finding a resolution.
Modi updated Putin on his recent visit to Kyiv, reinforcing his commitment to resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic means. This war has been ongoing for over two years, with significant international attention.
The conversation also covered trade and economic agreements made during Modi’s visit to Russia in July. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with their collaboration within BRICS and reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing bilateral interactions. Modi confirmed his participation in the October 2024 Kazan Summit, which will be part of Russia’s BRICS chairmanship.
Modi’s recent trip to Ukraine on August 23 marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country. During this visit, Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reiterated India’s stance on achieving a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi emphasised that India has always supported peace and is prepared to contribute to progress in the region.
The leaders exchanged views on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Modi stressing the importance of sincere engagement and practical solutions to achieve a lasting resolution. Putin and Modi also discussed various regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Following the phone call, Modi expressed his commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict and highlighted the importance of maintaining strong bilateral relations between India and Russia. He reiterated India’s dedication to supporting an early and enduring resolution to the ongoing conflict.
