Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, currently on a two-day state visit to India, was granted a grand ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. This marks his second visit to the country since March 2015, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
After the formal welcome, the Emir and President Droupadi Murmu introduced their respective ministers and delegations to each other.
Sheikh Tamim is scheduled to hold a key bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House later today, where both leaders will discuss ways to further strengthen the longstanding relationship between India and Qatar.
The discussions are expected to cover various areas of mutual interest, including trade, security, and regional stability.
At 1:00 p.m., an exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will take place at the same venue. This exchange marks a significant step forward in the ongoing collaboration between the two nations.
Later, at 7:00 p.m., Sheikh Tamim will meet with President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where she will also host a lavish banquet in his honor.

A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between India and Qatar, built on a foundation of friendship, trust, and mutual respect. In recent years, these ties have strengthened significantly in areas such as trade, investment, energy, technology, and cultural exchanges.
The Emir’s visit will conclude with his departure from India at 9:05 p.m.
In a special gesture, Prime Minister Modi personally welcomed Sheikh Tamim at the Air Force Station in Palam on Monday evening. The warm embrace shared by the two leaders symbolized the strong bond and unique relationship between India and Qatar.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared this moment on X, stating, “A special gesture for a special friend! PM Modi welcomed HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, at the airport as he arrived in New Delhi on his second state visit to India.
The visit will further strengthen the bonds of the India-Qatar partnership.”
