On Thursday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids in the Jammu and Kashmir districts of Srinagar and Handwara. The Resistance Front (TRF), a banned terror organisation with connections to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has been implicated in a terror funding case that is currently being investigated.
The case is particularly significant as it is connected to a deadly terror attack that occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April. In this attack, terrorists from the TRF were responsible for the deaths of 26 tourists, making it one of the most severe terror incidents in recent memory.
The NIA's involvement in the case began in May, when the agency took over the investigation from the state police. Prior to these raids, two suspects had already been apprehended in connection with the same case.

The recent raids were conducted at the residences of these arrested individuals. During the searches, the NIA successfully recovered documents that are believed to be linked to the case. The investigation has also uncovered a foreign funding connection, which is now undergoing detailed scrutiny by the agency.
Furthermore, the NIA's investigation has brought to light that terrorist groups in the region have been actively inciting young people to participate in anti-national activities. These groups are also providing financial support to these young recruits to facilitate their involvement. The NIA has stated that its investigation into these matters is ongoing.

This operation comes after Jammu and Kashmir saw a surge in counterterrorism efforts. Security forces carried out a number of operations earlier in the month that led to the deaths of more than two dozen terrorists in different engagements throughout the region.
The Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Jammu and Kashmir Police were among the several security forces that worked together on these operations. Both domestic and international terrorists were the targets of these operations.
The security forces' actions had a significant impact on the terrorist landscape in the region. Many of the terrorists who were neutralised were Pakistani nationals, while nine of them were identified as local recruits. According to intelligence sources, these successful operations led to a noticeable decrease in the overall number of active local terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
