In a significant development in the murder case of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, a Meghalaya court on Thursday remanded three individuals to six days of police custody for allegedly concealing evidence linked to the crime.
The accused, who was taken into custody from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is suspected of interfering with the investigation and tampering with important evidence. The Meghalaya Police conducted a thorough investigation before making the arrests.
The three were taken to the Civil Hospital for standard medical examinations after being transported to Shillong under strict security measures, and then they were brought before the court. In order to allow investigators to question the three accused further, the court granted them six days of police custody, according to Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda.
The defendants are charged with helping to hide evidence at an Indore apartment where Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha resided following the murder. The police claim that Sonam used the flat to store jewellery and other valuables that she had taken after the crime.

One of the suspected hitmen, Vishal Chauhan, rented the apartment in question from Silome James, a real estate agent in Indore. A Meghalaya Police special investigation team (SIT) detained James on Sunday for allowing the use of the flat. Vivek Syiem, the superintendent of police for East Khasi Hills, disclosed that the flat was used as a hiding place by Sonam and Raj following the murder and was crucial in hiding the aftermath of the crime.
The investigation's scope was further increased when two additional people were detained in Madhya Pradesh in relation to the case, in addition to James. Five main suspects in the murder had previously been taken into custody by the police: Sonam, her purported lover Raj Kushwaha, and his associates Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. Everyone is thought to have planned and carried out the murder.
On May 23, while on their honeymoon in Meghalaya, Raja Raghuvanshi, who had married Sonam on May 11, vanished inexplicably. On June 2, almost ten days after he vanished, his disfigured body was found in a deep gorge in the Sohra area of the East Khasi Hills district. Because of the heinousness of the murder and the complex network of connections and preparation involved, the case has garnered a lot of attention, and as the investigation goes on, more arrests and disclosures are anticipated.
