The family of Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was brutally murdered during his honeymoon trip to Meghalaya, has given their approval for a film based on the tragic incident. The case had made national headlines earlier this year following the arrest of Raja's wife, Sonam, and her alleged lover in connection with the crime.

The film, tentatively titled “Honeymoon in Shillong,” is being helmed by director SP Nimbawat, who confirmed that the project aims to shed light on the betrayal that led to Raja's death. Speaking to the media, Raja’s elder brother Sachin Raghuvanshi said the family agreed to the film because they believe it is important for the truth behind the murder to reach the public.

“We gave our consent for the film because if we don’t bring the story of my brother’s murder to the big screen, people will never know who was right and who was wrong,” Sachin said. Another brother, Vipin, added that the family also wants to correct any negative impressions of Meghalaya and showcase the state in a fair light through the project.

Director SP Nimbawat said the story centers around a deep betrayal that Raja experienced shortly after his wedding. “We want this film to send a message to society—that such acts of betrayal must be condemned and stopped,” he stated. Though Nimbawat did not disclose the cast, he confirmed that the script is complete. He revealed that 80 per cent of the filming will take place in Indore, while the remaining 20 per cent will be shot in various parts of Meghalaya, including locations where the actual events unfolded.

The case dates back to May, when Raja Raghuvanshi had traveled to Meghalaya with his wife Sonam on their honeymoon. Days after he went missing, his mutilated body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji), located in the East Khasi Hills district. Police investigations led to the arrest of eight individuals, including Sonam and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, in connection with the murder. The case drew widespread attention due to its disturbing nature and the involvement of close family members.
