The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Thursday following heated exchanges after allegations were levelled by Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Kiren Rijiju against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of using force against women BJP MPs at Parliament's entrance steps.
As the House reconvened at 2 p.m. after an earlier adjournment, members of the BJP raised the issue, demanding an apology from Gandhi. The alleged misconduct, reportedly occurring near the entry to the Parliament building, became the focal point of the proceedings.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar appealed for calm, assuring the House that he was examining the complaint filed by BJP members. “I have taken note of the issue raised and will address it after thorough scrutiny,” Dhankhar stated.
In response, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva highlighted that the BJP's complaint presented only one side of the story, while Gandhi had alleged that MPs from the ruling party pushed him during the altercation.
Despite repeated attempts by the Chair to maintain decorum, both treasury and opposition benches engaged in vociferous sloganeering.
The stalemate ultimately compelled the Chairman to adjourn the House for the day. Proceedings are scheduled to resume on Friday morning.
