A national coordination conclave of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has condemned the recent violence against a female doctor in West Bengal, calling it "very unfortunate," Sunil Ambekar, RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, said on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference following the three-day conclave titled 'Samanway Baithak,' Ambekar emphasised the need to revisit laws and penal actions to ensure swift justice for women who suffer atrocities.
The rape and murder of a 31-year-old female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 were discussed extensively during the Baithak. Ambekar expressed deep concern, noting that similar incidents are increasing across the country.
He highlighted the conclave's focus on the roles of the government, official mechanisms, laws, and procedures, stressing the necessity for reforms to establish effective and expeditious justice for victims.
A civic volunteer has been arrested in connection with the crime.
