In a distressing incident, a Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) constable was arrested in Ranchi for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman who had visited the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi to seek treatment for a relative.
The accused, identified as SAP jawan Santosh Kumar Barla, was arrested on Friday following swift police action. Reports indicate that the victim, a resident of Chatra district in Jharkhand, was at RIMS on Thursday night when the crime occurred.
While the woman was out procuring medicines for her relative, the jawan reportedly coerced her into an isolated area on the hospital’s fourth floor, where he sexually assaulted her.
After committing the heinous act, the jawan allegedly threatened the woman with dire consequences should she disclose the incident.
The victim informed her family of the assault on Friday morning, which led to a formal complaint being lodged at the Bariatu police station in Ranchi. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the accused and initiated an investigation into the case.
Commenting on the matter, Ranchi Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sanjeev Besra confirmed the arrest. “The accused SAP jawan has been sent to jail. Immediate action was taken following the victim’s complaint,” he said.
This incident has raised significant concerns about the safety of individuals in public institutions, such as hospitals. Authorities have assured a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice for the survivor.
The appalling crime has sparked outrage, with demands for enhanced security measures at RIMS and other public facilities to prevent such incidents in the future.
