SC collegium recommends 14 advocates as judges for Bombay HC

In continuance of the routine task with regard to identifying eligible and deserving, the Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of 14 advocates as Bombay High Court judges.

In continuance of the routine task with regard to identifying eligible and deserving, the Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of 14 advocates as Bombay High Court judges.

 

The recommendations were made through two separate resolutions in the meeting held on August 19. 

While in  one resolution, eight lawyers whose names were recommended, by way of other resolution six more were named for the coveted posts. 

 

They include Siddheshwar Sundarrao Thombre, Mehroz Ashraf Khan Pathan , Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale,Sandesh Dadasaheb Patil, Shreeram Vinayak Shirsat ,Hiten Shamrao Venegavkar, Rajnish Ratnakar Vyas and Raj Damodar WakodeBy way of another  separate resolution, the  six advocates whose name  were recommended include Nandesh Shankarrao Deshpande,Amit Satyavan Jamsandekar, Ashish Sahadev Chavan,Vaishali Nimbajirao Patil-Jadhav,Abasaheb Dharmaji Shinde and Farhan Parvez Dubash.

 

Advocate Venegavkar is the currently serving as the Chief Public Prosecutor for Maharashtra while Advocate Dubash holds the position of secretary at the Bombay Bar Association. It is pertinent to mention that  Bombay High Court has a sanctioned strength of 94 judges. This includes both permanent and additional judges. Specifically, there are 71 permanent judges and 23 additional judges.

 

Meanwhile ,the Supreme Court collegium has approved the proposal to appoint two additional judges as permanent judges in the Gauhati High Court. The collegium headed by Chief Justice of India B R Gavai held its meeting on August 19.


“The Supreme Court collegium in its meeting held on August 19, 2025 has approved the proposal for appointment of the following additional judges as permanent judges in the Gauhati High Court: (i) Justice Budi Habung, and (ii) Justice N Unni Krishnan Nair (sic),” a related communication stated.The collegium also recommended additional judge Justice Kaushik Goswami to be appointed as additional judge of the high court for a fresh term of one year from November 10.
