The Supreme Court is set to consider an application from the Election Commission today, seeking changes to the March 11 order in the electoral bonds case.

The Commission clarified that it did not retain any copies of the documents submitted to the court in sealed cover during the hearing and requested their return to comply with the court's directives.

Additionally, a separate petition filed by the NGO Association for Democratic Reforms regarding the exclusion of the Chief Justice of India from a panel for selecting the chief election commissioner and election commissioners was also expected to be heard on Friday, although it was not listed on the court's agenda.

In the electoral bonds case, the apex court had instructed the State Bank of India (SBI) on March 11 to disclose bond details to the EC by the end of business hours on March 12. The Election Commission, in its recent application, emphasised its compliance with court orders regarding confidentiality and requested the return of documents submitted in sealed covers to fulfil the court's directions.

The EC's application will be heard by a five-judge Constitution bench chaired by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud. The court's March 11 order had denied SBI's request for an extension and mandated the disclosure of electoral bond details by the bank to the EC by the March 12 close of business hours.

Furthermore, the EC was directed to publish the information provided by the bank on its official website by 5 pm on March 15. The Election Commission adhered to this directive by posting the electoral bond data on its website on Thursday, a day before the deadline.
