Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphatically stated that India’s enemies have now understood the consequences when 'sindoor'—a symbol of tradition and faith—turns into gunpowder, praising the Indian armed forces for executing a trap so effective that it brought Pakistan to its knees.
Speaking publicly in Rajasthan for the first time after Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Modi condemned Pakistan sharply and recounted how India destroyed nine major terror hideouts in just 22 minutes as a retaliatory measure.
Addressing a public gathering in Palana, Bikaner—an area bordering Pakistan—Modi said, “The world and the enemies of the country have witnessed what happens when ‘sindoor’ becomes ‘barood’ (gunpowder).” He declared, “Now not blood, but sindoor flows in Modi’s veins,” emphasising that Pakistan would have to pay a heavy price for every terrorist attack on India. Modi clarified that the Indian response was not about revenge but represented a “new form of justice,” adding there would be no talks or trade with Pakistan, only discussions regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

In a stern warning, the Prime Minister said India would not be intimidated by nuclear threats. He made it clear that any terrorist attack on India would be met with a fitting response determined solely by the Indian Army under conditions set by India. “We will not distinguish between terrorists and the state that sponsors them; we will treat them as one,” he said, describing these principles as the three “sutras” (guidelines) of Operation Sindoor. Modi also declared the tactic of using both state and non-state actors by Pakistan to wage war against India would no longer work.
He praised the armed forces for their successful execution of Operation Sindoor, stating that the government gave full freedom to the Army, Navy, and Air Force to act decisively, resulting in Pakistan being forced to “go down on its knees.” Highlighting the failed attempt by Pakistan to target the Nal Air Base in Bikaner, Modi contrasted it with the damage inflicted on Pakistan’s Rahimyar Khan air base, which he said was still in intensive care and “destroyed” by the Indian attack.

Modi underscored that Pakistan could never win a direct conflict with India, which was why it resorted to terrorism as a weapon. Reflecting on his 2019 rally in Rajasthan’s Churu after the Balakot airstrike, Modi reiterated his vow never to let the country bow or perish. He asserted from Rajasthan that those who sought to erase sindoor (symbolising Indian culture and identity) had themselves been eliminated, and those proud of their weapons now lay buried beneath rubble.
He reiterated that Operation Sindoor was not about vengeance but a new, fierce form of justice and reflected the strength of a capable India. Comparing the operation with past strikes like the 2016 surgical strikes and the Balakot airstrike, Modi said earlier India struck by infiltrating enemy houses, but now the attack was “directly on their chest.”
Modi condemned Pakistan for its history of spreading terror and killing innocents to instill fear in India. He portrayed himself as a servant of “Maa Bharti,” standing strong with a cool mind but passionate spirit. He stressed that there would be no trade or talks with Pakistan except discussions related to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Further, he warned that if Pakistan continued exporting terrorists, it would be forced to beg for every penny, lose its rightful share of water from India, and pay dearly for playing with Indian lives.
The Prime Minister stressed that both security and prosperity were vital for building a developed India and that this could only be achieved when every corner of the country grew strong. Modi also highlighted India’s diplomatic efforts, mentioning that all-party delegations were being sent worldwide to expose Pakistan’s true nature and assert India’s right to self-defense after Operation Sindoor. “The real face of Pakistan will be shown to the whole world,” he said.
Operation Sindoor involved precise strikes on terror infrastructure on May 7 in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. In response, Pakistan launched attacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10, which were met with fierce counterattacks by Indian forces on Pakistani military installations. The confrontation ended on May 10 after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes, when both countries agreed to de-escalate.
