Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday demanded a public apology from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and other BJP leaders, following a Special Investigation Team (SIT) ruling that found no evidence of foul play in the death of Disha Salian.
Speaking to reporters, Raut said, “Now, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis should apologise to Aaditya Thackeray. Narayan Rane’s son Nitish Rane, Devendra Fadnavis, other BJP leaders, and Eknath Shinde — all of them should apologise to Shiv Sena (UBT) and Aaditya Thackeray.”
The Mumbai Police SIT submitted its report to the Bombay High Court, stating there was no indication of murder or conspiracy in the death of the former celebrity manager, who fell from a building in June 2020.
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) leader Rohit Pawar also criticised the BJP, accusing it of dragging Aaditya Thackeray’s name into the matter for political gain. “Aaditya Thackeray had no relation to this incident,” Pawar told the agency.
“The BJP and its allies tried to use the name of a person who is no more, just for political advantage.”
In April, Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, filed a writ petition at the Bombay High Court alleging that Aaditya Thackeray and others were involved in his daughter’s death. Speaking to the media agency at the time, he said, “I have faith in the judiciary and God.”
He had demanded narco tests on all individuals allegedly linked to the case and requested protection for himself and his legal counsel. Satish Salian voiced frustration over the case's slow progress and blamed the former Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government for its inaction during its two-and-a-half-year rule.
“I had to take matters into my own hands and approach the court to get justice,” he said.
