Parvesh Verma emerges as top contender for Delhi CM post.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to return to power in Delhi after nearly three decades, with a significant lead in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

As per the Election Commission's trends, the BJP is ahead in 48 of the 70 assembly seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) trails with 22. This shift in political dynamics has sparked widespread speculation over who will be the next Chief Minister of Delhi.

With the BJP reclaiming its stronghold, the decision on the new Chief Minister is expected to be made by the party’s central leadership.

Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva has confirmed that the final selection will be determined at the highest level, keeping in mind experience, leadership qualities, and political influence.

One of the strongest contenders for the role is Parvesh Verma, who secured a significant victory by defeating Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency.

As the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, his political lineage and electoral success make him a key figure in the race for the top post.

Vijender Gupta, former Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, is also being considered for the position. His strong stance against the AAP government and his victory over AAP’s Pradeep Mittal in Rohini bolster his chances of being picked as the party’s choice for Chief Minister.

Satish Upadhyay, the Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and former Delhi BJP President, is another name being discussed. His recent victory against AAP’s Somnath Bharti in Malviya Nagar adds to his credibility as a seasoned leader with administrative experience.

Majinder Singh Sirsa, who defeated AAP's Dhanwati Chandela in Rajouri Garden, is also a significant contender. His influence extends beyond Delhi, particularly in the Sikh community, which could play a strategic role in BJP’s political planning.

Harish Khurana, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, is another strong candidate in the race. Having defeated AAP’s Shivcharan Goel from Moti Nagar, he brings both political experience and a family legacy, which could be advantageous in leading the capital.

With BJP set to form the government in Delhi after 27 years, the focus is now on the party’s leadership to finalise the Chief Ministerial candidate.
