SpiceJet assault case: Army officer put on no-fly list for 5 yrs

"When politely informed of the excess baggage and asked to pay the applicable charges, the passenger refused and forcefully entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding process - a clear violation of aviation security protocols. He was escorted back to the gate by a CISF official. At the gate, the passenger grew increasingly aggressive and physically assaulted four members of the SpiceJet ground staff,” SpiceJet said in a statement.

The Indian Army officer who assaulted the SpiceJet employees at the Srinagar airport in July was put on the no-fly list for the next five years, as announced by the DGCA on Tuesday.

The incident was reported on July 26. According to media reports, an army officer scheduled to board a flight to Delhi was stopped by airline ground staff at the airport for carrying two cabin bags. As per the rules of the domestic flight, cabin baggage exceeding 7 kg counts for additional charges. When informed about this, the officer grew agitated and allegedly misbehaved with the staff, the reports added.
