Suspected drones were spotted and actively engaged by Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, defence sources confirmed on Monday. The sightings come amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a series of cross-border incidents. Officials, however, emphasised that there is no cause for panic at this time.
Video footage shared by news agencies captured the moment Indian forces intercepted the suspected Pakistani drones over Samba. The visuals showed red tracer rounds lighting up the sky, followed by explosions as the drones were targeted and neutralised.
Samba is one of several border regions that have witnessed drone activity in recent days. On May 8, Indian forces intercepted drones in multiple locations including Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, Amritsar, and Pathankot. These incidents occurred in the backdrop of escalating hostilities between the two nations.

The current drone incursions appear to be part of Pakistan’s response to India's Operation Sindoor — a series of precision strikes launched on May 7 targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was carried out in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. Over 100 terrorists were reportedly eliminated during the strikes on nine identified terror camps.
In the days following Operation Sindoor, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military installations in Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot. Indian defence forces responded swiftly, thwarting these attempts and reinforcing vigilance across the border regions.
On May 10, both countries announced a mutual understanding to cease firing along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC). However, the ceasefire was short-lived. Within hours, Pakistan violated the agreement by resuming drone operations, prompting renewed alertness on the Indian side.
In the wake of these developments, multiple explosions were heard in Srinagar, leading authorities to issue a red alert and impose a blackout across the area. Meanwhile, Indian forces also shot down drones in Pokhran, Rajasthan, and Baramulla in Kashmir, underscoring the widespread nature of the threat and India’s readiness to neutralise it.
