Tata Motors has launched a new registered vehicle scrapping facility in Guwahati, marking a significant step in responsible vehicle recycling in the Northeast.
The facility, which can dismantle up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually, is operated in partnership with Axom Platinum Scrappers. It is equipped to scrap both passenger and commercial vehicles from all brands.
With this addition, Tata Motors now operates seven such facilities across India, including in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR, and Pune. The company aims to expand its sustainable vehicle scrapping network, supporting the principles of a circular economy.
At the inauguration ceremony, Tata Motors Executive Director Girish Wagh emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainable practices. He highlighted that the facility would play a key role in promoting environmentally friendly scrapping methods while creating economic opportunities in the region.
The event was attended by Assam government ministers Jogen Mohan and Ashok Singhal, along with Sanjive Narain, Director of Axom Automobiles.
The ministers lauded the initiative, stating that the facility would not only boost employment but also contribute to the state’s economic growth and environmental sustainability.
With a total of seven scrapping facilities now operational, Tata Motors has the capacity to dismantle over 100,000 end-of-life vehicles annually across India.
The Guwahati facility is designed with advanced infrastructure, including dedicated stations for dismantling various components such as tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases. It features both cell-type and line-type dismantling for commercial and passenger vehicles, ensuring safe and efficient disposal.
Assam minister Ashok Singhal described the facility as a major step towards a greener and cleaner state. He stated that responsible vehicle disposal would help in reducing carbon emissions and promoting an eco-friendly approach to end-of-life vehicle management.
Jogen Mohan echoed similar sentiments, expressing confidence that the facility would bring multiple benefits to Assam’s economy and environment. He emphasised that such initiatives would help in ensuring the safe disposal of vehicles while contributing to a more sustainable future.
