RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son, Tejashwi Yadav, welcomed a baby boy on Tuesday morning. The child was born at a private hospital in Kolkata, and both mother and baby are reported to be in good health.
Tejashwi took to X to share the first photograph of his newborn son. His wife had been admitted to the hospital on Monday night, and in the early hours of Tuesday morning, she gave birth to their second child. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had been aware of the family’s presence in Kolkata for several months, visited the hospital to meet the baby and the Yadav family.

After her visit, Mamata said, “I knew that his wife had been in Kolkata for nine months. Last night, Tejashwi informed me that she was having an operation. At 6:14 a.m. he messaged me to say a son had been born. At 6:16 a.m. I replied that I would visit at 11 a.m.—and I came. The baby looks very sweet. Both mother and child are doing well. I also met and spoke with Lalu-ji.”
Tejashwi and his wife, Rajshree, tied the knot in 2021. In 2023, they welcomed a daughter, whom Lalu named Katyayani, as she was born during Navratri. Now, with their son born on Hanuman Jayanti, Tejashwi shared that while many are suggesting names, it will ultimately be Lalu who names the child.
Grateful for Mamata’s support, Tejashwi said, “We are very thankful to the Chief Minister. She has been like a guardian for us here. Everyone is doing well now.”

The joyful moment comes amid family tensions. Just days before the birth of Tejashwi’s son, Lalu Prasad Yadav took the dramatic step of expelling his elder son, Tej Pratap, from the party.
Reports suggest that the rift has gone beyond politics, with Lalu also distancing himself from Tej Pratap on personal grounds.
Yet, for now, the Yadav family’s focus has shifted from political turmoil to the joy of a new arrival, as Lalu embraces grandfatherhood once again.
