Preparations for the 76th Republic Day are in full swing in the national capital, with rehearsals for the parade taking place on Kartavyapath. Consequently, flight operations at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will face restrictions until 26 January, as announced by the airport operator.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), in a post on X, shared a ‘Notice to Airmen’ (NOTAM) advisory stating, “As per the NOTAM issued for Republic Day from 19th to 26th Jan, no flights would be arriving or departing from Delhi Airport between 10:20 am to 12:45 pm IST.” Passengers have been urged to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.
Traffic in the city is also being regulated to ensure smooth rehearsals for the Republic Day parade.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory restricting movement around Kartavyapath, including Rafi Marg crossing, Janpath crossing, Mansingh Road crossing, and C-Hexagon.
These restrictions will remain effective from 10:15 am to 12:30 pm until 21 January.
The police have further urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience.
“Plan your journey in advance to avoid inconvenience,” read the advisory, which also asked commuters to remain patient and heed traffic instructions.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has issued an order prohibiting the operation of drones and sub-conventional aerial platforms over the capital from 18 January to 1 February.
The order lists platforms such as paragliders, para-motors, unmanned aircraft systems (UASs), quadcopters, and hot air balloons as restricted.
The Commissioner explained the rationale, noting that anti-social elements or terrorists could use such aerial platforms to pose a threat to public safety, dignitaries, and key installations in the capital.
The use of such platforms, as well as para-jumping from aircraft, is punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Dress rehearsals for the parade have commenced, with security heightened across the city to ensure smooth proceedings leading up to Republic Day.
