KCP Finance Secretary Herojit Meitei Arrested in Meghalaya.

In a major breakthrough in counter-insurgency efforts, the Ri-Bhoi District Police on Monday arrested Khundongbam Herojit Meitei, the Finance Secretary of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), during a raid at Nongthymmai, 15th Mile, Byrnihat.

The arrest, which took place around 8:30 pm on Monday, followed credible intelligence inputs suggesting that Meitei had been hiding in a rented house and was actively involved in extortion and subversive operations across Meghalaya and neighbouring states.

During the operation, police recovered two mobile phones and other incriminating materials from the premises. On interrogation, Meitei admitted to being an active member of the banned KCP (PWG) and confessed to raising funds for the group.

Initial findings indicate that Meitei had relocated to the Assam-Meghalaya border region to evade intensified security crackdowns on insurgent outfits in Manipur.

Authorities also suspect that he has links with militant networks operating out of Myanmar and Nepal, pointing to a broader web of cross-border coordination.

Meitei is no stranger to law enforcement. He was arrested in Manipur last year for illegal possession of firearms and had previously been held in Dimapur in 2018 for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

A case has been registered at the Nongpoh Police Station, and further investigations are underway.

The Meghalaya Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that strict action will be taken against individuals or groups attempting to disrupt peace and security in the region.
