The Vande Bharat sleeper train has reached a peak speed of 180 km/h during its ongoing trials. The high-speed train, designed to offer world-class facilities, showcased its stability during the trial when a nearly full glass of water, placed on a plain surface, remained steady as the train sped along a 40-km stretch in Rajasthan.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the video on social media to projected the comfort and stability of the Vande Bharat trains, emphasising the smoothness of travel at such high speeds.

“The video shows a nearly full-to-brim glass of water adjacent to a mobile on a plain surface inside a Vande Bharat sleeper train. The water level remaining static can be seen in the video as the moving train achieves near constant peak speed of 180 km per hour exhibiting the element of comfort in the high-speed rail travel,” the Ministry of Railways stated.

The trials, which began recently, have been successful, and the sleeper train has repeatedly achieved its peak speed over the past few days.

The trials will continue until the end of January, after which the train will undergo a final evaluation by the Railway Safety Commissioner at its maximum speed.

If it passes the final stage, it will be officially certified and integrated into Indian Railways' regular services.

Once operational, the Vande Bharat sleeper trains are expected to provide commuters with a world-class travel experience across the country, including major long-distance routes such as Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, and Howrah to Chennai.

The trains are equipped with features like automatic doors, ultra-comfortable berths, onboard Wi-Fi, and a sleek aircraft-like design, marking a new era in Indian rail travel.
