Vijay Rupani, the BJP's Punjab state affairs in-charge and former Chief Minister of Gujarat, recently addressed rumours about the resignation of Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar.
Speaking to the media after a meeting focused on the upcoming panchayat elections and assembly by-polls in Punjab, Rupani clarified that Jakhar has not resigned and will lead the party in the upcoming elections.
The speculation regarding Jakhar's resignation gained traction after he missed an important meeting of the state unit held in Chandigarh. Rupani emphasised that Jakhar was away in Delhi for personal reasons, which accounted for his absence. He reassured party members and supporters that Jakhar remains the president and will guide the party through the forthcoming elections in Punjab.
The situation unfolded following another missed meeting by Jakhar the previous week, further fueling conjecture about his position within the party. Despite this uncertainty, Rupani's statements were intended to dispel any doubts about Jakhar's leadership role and the party's readiness for the upcoming electoral challenges.
In addition to addressing the speculation surrounding Jakhar, Rupani also took the opportunity to highlight the BJP's preparations for the upcoming elections.
The party is focused on engaging with voters and addressing local issues, including the needs of unauthorised colonies in Delhi, slum conditions, and essential services like water and electricity.
On the same day, a separate meeting was convened at the residence of BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda. This gathering included prominent party figures, such as Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh, who discussed strategies for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
During this meeting, sources indicated that the focus was on presenting the challenges posed by the Aam Aadmi Party's governance in Delhi. The discussions aimed to highlight the alleged corruption within the party and to bring attention to the central government's achievements.
To ensure a robust electoral strategy, the BJP high command has instructed party members to develop a comprehensive road map for the Delhi Assembly elections within a week.
This plan includes emphasising the benefits of the central government’s initiatives while simultaneously addressing the shortcomings of the Kejriwal administration.
The party's strategy revolves around showcasing its accomplishments and exposing any failings of the Aam Aadmi Party, with the ultimate goal of winning public support ahead of the elections.
The discussions held by senior leaders demonstrate the BJP's commitment to strengthening its presence in Punjab and Delhi, and their intent to secure victory in the upcoming polls.
