Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a meeting with US Under Secretary Jeffrey Kessler in Washington, with a focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in critical and emerging technologies. The meeting was part of Misri's official visit to the United States from May 27 to 29, during which he is scheduled to engage with several senior officials of the US administration, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The visit serves as a follow-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to the United States in February 2025. During that visit, both countries jointly launched the India-US COMPACT—Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce and Technology—a strategic framework aimed at deepening collaboration in key areas including defence, trade, and technology.
In a post shared on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy in Washington stated that Misri's meeting with Kessler was centered on advancing India-US engagement in the field of critical and emerging technologies. “They also discussed early convening of the India-US Strategic Trade Dialogue to deepen tech and trade collaboration,” the embassy added.
The visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the United States, particularly in areas that are vital for future economic and security cooperation.
