The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced that it will contest all seats in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The party claims that the Muslim population in the state now exceeds 40 per cent.

Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata, AIMIM spokesperson Imran Solanki made the announcement. “We fought in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi. Now, we will fight in Bengal. In the panchayat elections, AIMIM got 60,000 votes in Malda, 25,000 in Murshidabad, and 15,000 to 18,000 in other areas,” he said.

The press conference was held on the instructions of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

The party highlighted its political agenda, focusing on Muslims, Dalits, and tribals. It also discussed its expansion strategy for the upcoming elections.

Solanki accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of misusing Waqf properties. He claimed that the entire area from the High Court to Fort William belongs to the Waqf Board, but the TMC benefits from it.

“The TMC government takes advantage of Waqf properties. If they want Muslim votes, they must reveal the Waqf Board accounts,” he said.

Solanki criticised both the TMC and the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that they use Muslim votes but do nothing for the community.

“They are two sides of the same coin. They win elections with Muslim votes but fail to deliver. Murshidabad, a Muslim-majority district, does not even have a university,” he said.

He also accused the TMC government of allowing the RSS to expand in Bengal. “More RSS offices are opening, right under the TMC’s nose. Suvendu Adhikari is Mamata Banerjee’s product. No case is filed against him, despite his foul language, but our people face false charges,” he alleged.

Solanki also raised concerns about the lack of a recent Census. He claimed that Muslims now make up over 40 per cent of Bengal’s population. He alleged that 90 per cent of Muslims vote for TMC, yet the party ignores them.

“They pretend to support minorities during elections but forget them later,” he said.

AIMIM has now started a membership drive, similar to the BJP’s strategy. Supporters can join the party by giving a missed call on a dedicated number.
