In his first official trip to Goa since taking over the party's top job, Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin touched down in the coastal state on Friday to kickstart a high-stakes two-day visit. Arriving at the Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Nabin was met with a full reception line led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and state unit president Damodar Naik before heading straight into a marathon session at the party’s Panaji headquarters.
With assembly elections looming early next year, the visit is less of a meet-and-greet and more of a strategic huddle. During a 30-minute address to the state’s core committee — which includes the CM, cabinet ministers, and top local leaders — Nabin reportedly focused on tightening the party's grip at the grassroots level. Chief Minister Sawant later confirmed that the President’s itinerary is packed, with plans to head into South Goa to mobilise workers there.
The evening schedule is equally critical, as Nabin is set to sit down with the BJP’s NDA partners, including the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and the independent MLAs currently propping up the Sawant government. Keeping these allies on the same page will be vital as the party prepares its defense for the upcoming polls.
Nabin’s elevation as the party’s 12th national president on January 20 marked a clear generational shift for the BJP. The Goa visit serves as an early test of his leadership style as he looks to strengthen booth-level organisations, thereby cementing the party's influence in the region. As national media co-incharge Sanjay Mayukh noted, the goal here is simple: ensure the machinery is well-oiled and ready for the electoral battle ahead.
