The swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government in Delhi is expected to take place around February 19 or 20. Party leaders have outlined key priorities for the new administration, including the provision of clean drinking water, enhanced civic infrastructure, and environmental improvements.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a newly elected BJP MLA and national party secretary, shared with PTI that the prime minister, returning from his foreign trip, will soon appoint observers for the BJP legislature party meeting.
Sirsa, who is considered a potential candidate for the position of Chief Minister or a ministerial role, mentioned that the new government would begin functioning shortly after the ceremony. "I expect the BJP legislature party meeting to be held around February 18-19, and the government will be formally formed by February 20 after the swearing-in," said Sirsa, the MLA from Rajouri Garden.
While discussions about leadership are ongoing, BJP lawmakers dismissed any speculations regarding a race for the Chief Minister’s position. Abhay Verma, the MLA from Laxmi Nagar, emphasised that the CM or the leader of the legislature party would be elected through a formal meeting of the MLAs.
Verma, a second-time MLA with Purvanchali roots, was also mentioned as a possible candidate for the role. "We are focused on serving the people and addressing issues like development, providing clean water, ensuring clean air, and working to free the Yamuna from pollution," he said.

The BJP MLAs reiterated their commitment to implementing the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in Delhi, which was blocked by the AAP government. This, they said, would be one of the first actions of the new Cabinet, in line with the prime minister's previous promises.
Sirsa outlined the priorities for the new government, which will include ensuring clean drinking water, improving sanitation, tackling air pollution, and initiating efforts to address the pollution in the Yamuna river—all within the first 100 days of governance.
Mohan Singh Bisht, a six-term MLA, stated that the new Chief Minister of Delhi would be chosen from the 48 BJP legislators. Bisht also proposed renaming the Mustafabad constituency, a predominantly minority area, to "Shiv Vihar" or "Shiv Puri" in response to local public sentiment.
"Around 42 per cent of the population is from one community (minorities), while 58 percent are Hindus, so the public sentiment must be respected," he said.
The new BJP government is also planning to address Yamuna pollution by establishing sewage treatment plants (STPs) to treat the 28 major drains that flow into the river, marking a significant step toward environmental improvement in the city.
