National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah on Sunday has alleged that the BJP leadership is trying to intimidate Hindu voters while campaigning in Jammu and Kashmir for the Assembly elections by making false claims of terror activities increasing in the Union Territory if the NC-Congress alliance came to power.
Abdullah criticised the BJP for allegedly misleading voters by claiming that terrorism would return to the Valley if the National Conference and Congress alliance came to power in J&K.
“They (BJP) want to threaten the Hindu community,” alleged Abdullah.
“They thought the Hindus would vote for them, but today the Hindus have changed. First, they (BJP) sought votes in the name of Ram, and now they want to intimidate them.”
The NC chief was speaking to reporters at the Naseembagh Mausoleum of the national conference founder Sheikh Abdullah after paying tributes to his late father on his 42nd death anniversary.
“They repealed Article 370 (of the Constitution), but did terrorism end? Terrorism is rising again and it is all their responsibility,” he said, blaming the BJP for the deteriorating security situation in J&K.
Reacting to the Home Minister's criticism of the NC-Congress alliance during his recent two-day visit to Jammu, the former Chief Minister said he aimed to malign NC and nothing else. He said, “God willing, they won’t succeed. Our efforts will pave the way to serving for the betterment of our people.
“The Home Minister can keep saying what he wants to say about us, but I want to tell him that we are against the idea of Bharat, which his party, the BJP, wishes to create. Bharat belongs to all Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and Buddhists.
“We are not intruders. We are not snatching away mangalsutra. Muslims have an equal contribution to the freedom of India,” he added.
On the restoration of statehood, Abdullah said the NC-Congress alliance would get it back. On the BJP manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir polls, he said it was just an empty “Jumla” (rhetoric).
