BJP state committee member Sandeep G Varier on Saturday deflected to the Congress ahead of the Palakkad Assembly byelection.
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) confirmed the move during a press conference.
Varier’s decision comes amidst ongoing controversies surrounding his dissatisfaction with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He accused the party of neglecting him during critical moments, including when top leaders did not visit or offer condolences following his mother’s passing.
Tensions further escalated during a recent by-election convention in Palakkad, where Varier reportedly walked out after being denied a seat on the stage.
Following the incident, he decided to refrain from campaigning for BJP candidate C Krishnakumar.
In a major jolt for BJP ahead of a crucial assembly by-election, party leader G Sandeep Varier on Saturday joined the Congress.
Sandeep, a former BJP spokesperson and a member of the state committee, had revolted against the party earlier this month saying that he would not campaign for party candidate in Palakkad assembly by-poll C Krishnakumar.
Sandeep was welcomed to the Congress in Palakkad at the district committee office in the presence of party state president K Sudhakaran and Opposition leader VD Satheesan.
