Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav criticised the Nitish Kumar government on Thursday over two major incidents that sparked political debate in Bihar.
The first incident involved a gunfight between two groups in Mokama, with former MLA Anant Singh involved. The second incident saw the State Vigilance Unit (SVU) raiding the home of Bettiah District Education Officer (DEO) Rajnikant Pravin. The anti-corruption wing seized assets worth over Rs 2 crore, including Rs 50 lakh in cash.
Yadav blamed the Nitish Kumar government for the rise in crime and corruption in Bihar. He said that under Mr. Kumar's leadership, the law and order situation had completely broken down.
On the same day, the SVU conducted raids in Bettiah, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, and Patna, related to allegations of illegal wealth.
Yadav pointed out the shocking amount of cash found, saying, “This shows the level of corruption. Can you imagine such a large amount of cash at the house of a DEO? Crime and corruption are the two engines of the double engine government in Bihar.”
The Bihar Education Department suspended Bettiah DEO Rajnikant Pravin after the raids.

The second incident occurred on January 22, when over 100 rounds of firing were exchanged between two groups in Mokama.
Anant Singh’s supporters clashed with the Sonu-Monu group, after a local businessman was attacked over a financial dispute. The police have filed three FIRs, naming several individuals, including Singh and members of the rival group.

Yadav spoke out about the situation, claiming, "The law and order in the State has completely collapsed." He called for the defeat of the NDA in the next Assembly elections and promised that the RJD-led government would send all criminals to jail.
Yadav also pointed to the government’s failure to control crime, claiming the Chief Minister has been protecting criminals. He indirectly referred to Anant Singh and former MP Anand Mohan, who were both recently released from jail.
Singh had been sentenced to 10 years for violating the Arms Act, while Mohan had been serving a life sentence for the murder of a Dalit IAS officer. Yadav implied that the Chief Minister had played a role in securing their release by changing prison rules.
Tejashwi Yadav called on the people of Bihar to ensure that the NDA loses in the next elections and promised to tackle crime and corruption if RJD returns to power.
