Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and senior Bhartiya Janta Party leader Sunil Sharma on Sunday called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi and held detailed discussions on a range of issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir. This assumes significance in the backdrop of recent meetings conducted by CM Omar Abdullah with his legislators in isolation over statehood issue.
During the meeting the two leaders reviewed the prevailing security and law-and-order situation in the Union Territory and exchanged views on the overall political scenario. However, the feedback also focused on renewed political activities by the ruling alliance partners and other parties with regard to pressure being mounted on restoration of statehood to J&K.
The duo also discussed governance-related matters, public welfare initiatives and measures aimed at accelerating development across Jammu and Kashmir. Sunil Sharma, who is LoP and a senior leader of the party reiterated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace, inclusive development and the strengthening of democratic institutions at the grassroots level in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the BJP remains dedicated to fulfilling the aspirations of the people and advancing the Union Territory’s progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The meeting is also being viewed as significant amid ongoing efforts to further strengthen security, enhance governance and deepen democratic processes in Jammu and Kashmir.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by Sunil Sharma and assured him that the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains fully committed to ensuring lasting peace, strengthening security, accelerating development, and safeguarding the interests of the people of J&K. He reiterated that all necessary support would continue to be extended for the overall progress and prosperity of the Union Territory.
