Union Home Minister Amit Shah demands apology from Rahul Gandhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday strongly condemned the use of abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during an event organised by the INDIA bloc in Bihar. The incident has triggered a major political controversy in the state ahead of the upcoming elections.

Speaking out against the remarks, Shah stated, "Congress leaders have committed the most condemnable act by using derogatory words against PM Modi's mother during their Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra. I condemn it. Every Congress leader has spoken derogatory words against PM Modi."

Shah expressed deep pain over the incident, which occurred two days prior. "Modi ji’s mother lived a life in a poor household, raised her children with values, and enabled her son to become a leader of trust. To use abusive words for such a life is something the people of India can never tolerate," he said. He further characterised the incident as a new low in political discourse, adding, "There can be no greater fall in political life than this, and I strongly condemn it."

The Home Minister issued a direct appeal to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. "I want to urge Rahul Gandhi that if he has even a little bit of shame left, he must apologise to Modi ji, to his late mother, and to the people of this country. May God give wisdom to everyone," Shah said.

A video of Congress workers disparaging PM Modi and his late mother during Rahul Gandhi's "Voter Adhikar Yatra" in Darbhanga sparked the controversy. The workers are seen on a dais holding posters of Tejashwi Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi in the now-viral video. Since then, the BJP has requested a public apology from the Congress MP and filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Patna Kotwali Police Station.

Rahul Gandhi, his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav all started their motorcycle journey to Muzaffarpur from the same spot.

Amit Shah is not the only well-known figure to denounce the comments. "The use of indecent language against PM Narendra Modi Ji and his late mother from the Congress and RJD platforms during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga is extremely unbecoming, and I condemn it," wrote Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on X (formerly Twitter) in an effort to voice his disapproval.
