Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to attend a hearing in a defamation case at the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday.
The Congress district president, Abhishek Singh Rana, announced on Thursday that Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will arrive at Lucknow airport at 9 am on Friday and then proceed to Sultanpur.
Local Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Mishra filed a defamation case against Gandhi on August 4, 2018, alleging that Gandhi made objectionable remarks against the then-BJP president and current Home Minister Amit Shah in 2018.
Gandhi was granted bail in this case on February 20.
Special Magistrate Shubham Verma has summoned Gandhi to provide his statement on July 26.
