In a veiled attack on actor-turned-politician Vijay, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said that only his party will win the state assembly elections in 2026, irrespective of from where the opposition comes.
Vijay, popularly given the title of ‘Thalapathy’ meaning commander or leader, held the inaugural conference of his newly launched party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on October 27.
At the launch in Villupuram district’s Vikravandi, Vijay issued his first political speech in which he rebuked the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party without actually naming them.
Since then, leaders in Tamil Nadu, especially those from the DMK, have been responding to Vijay’s speech and comments.
Udhayanidhi, while speaking to the public in Villupuram, hinting at Vijay’s political foray, asserted: “No matter whoever decides to oppose us in 2026 Assembly elections, no matter what alliance they form, no matter which direction they come from, be it Delhi or from local, DMK will win."
Udhayanidhi, who has been friends with Vijay for a long time, had extended his best wishes to the fellow actor for his maiden political conference. “Vijay has been a friend for many years. I’ve known him since childhood. My production house’s first film featured him, and he’s remained a close friend. I wish him success in this new venture,” Udhayanidhi had said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin also responded to criticism by Vijay.
Stalin defended the success of his four-year government and dismissed the idea of its failure.
