Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has strongly hinted that he is the chief ministerial candidate for the opposition alliance in Bihar. In a rally held during the final leg of the Congress's 'Voter Adhikar Yatra,' where he was joined by Rahul Gandhi of the Congress and Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Tejashwi Yadav criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
He called the current government a "copycat government" and stated, "We need an original CM, not a duplicate one." He then turned to the crowd and asked, "Isn't it copying me? Tejashwi is ahead; the government is behind. Do you want a duplicate CM or an original CM?"
Tejashwi Yadav also described the yatra as a "historic journey" and accused the BJP of "vote theft." He claimed that the BJP is "scared," which is why they are trying to implement his vision. He added that the people of Bihar want a "real CM, not a duplicate CM."
As the son of two former chief ministers, Tejashwi Yadav is expected to continue the legacy of his father, Lalu Yadav. The RJD emerged as the largest party in the 2020 assembly elections under his leadership. He also served as Nitish Kumar's deputy for a short period.

The 2025 elections are considered very important for the Mahagathbandhan, the opposition alliance of the Congress and RJD, as they aim to unseat Nitish Kumar, who has been in power since 2015 and is the likely candidate for the NDA.
The RJD has already endorsed Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate. Political analysts believe that the Congress, despite its hesitation, might eventually support the decision, given its role as a junior partner in the alliance and its lower vote share.
Rahul Gandhi previously avoided a direct answer when asked about endorsing Tejashwi Yadav, stating, "All INDIA bloc partners are working together in a spirit of mutual respect, without any tension. We will contest the polls together, and the results will be good." Akhilesh Yadav has previously said that Tejashwi Yadav will form the next government.
