Kimi Antonelli claimed his maiden Formula One victory at the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing ahead of his Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team teammate George Russell, while Lewis Hamilton secured his first Grand Prix podium for Scuderia Ferrari.
The 19-year-old Italian, who had already made headlines by becoming the youngest polesitter in Formula One history a day earlier, briefly lost the lead at the start of the race at the Shanghai International Circuit after Hamilton surged ahead from third on the grid.
Antonelli quickly responded, however, reclaiming the lead before the end of the second lap and establishing control of the race. From that point onwards, he maintained a steady advantage over the field to secure his first victory in the Formula One championship.

With the win, Antonelli became the second-youngest driver ever to win a Formula One Grand Prix, marking a significant milestone early in his career. The Italian handled the pressure with composure, despite a tense moment late in the race when he ran slightly wide at the Turn 14 hairpin with four laps remaining. He ultimately crossed the finish line 5.5 seconds ahead of Russell, who finished in second place.
Russell, who had won the Sprint race on Saturday, faced some challenges during the race following an early Safety Car period. The British driver briefly dropped behind the two Ferrari cars during the middle stages before recovering strongly to regain second position.
His runner-up finish continued a strong start to the season and allowed him to retain the lead in the Drivers’ Championship standings.
Hamilton completed the podium in third place, securing his first Grand Prix podium since joining Ferrari. The seven-time world champion was involved in a competitive battle featuring both Ferrari drivers during the race.
Hamilton had initially taken the lead at the start thanks to a strong launch off the line, but was unable to match Antonelli’s pace over the full race distance Still, the podium represented an encouraging result for Hamilton and Ferrari at the same circuit where he secured a Sprint race victory last season.
Antonelli’s triumph also highlighted the rise of a new generation of drivers in Formula One, with the teenager delivering a confident and controlled performance to capture his first Grand Prix win in impressive fashion.
