The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the T20I Cricketer of the Year award for 2024, featuring some standout performances from players around the globe.
Among the nominees is young India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, whose impressive performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 has earned him a place on the list.
Arshdeep finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, claiming 17 wickets from eight matches, with an average of 12.64 and an economy rate of 7.16.
He has also been the highest wicket-taker among Test-playing nations, with 36 wickets from 18 matches, averaging 13.50 with an economy of 7.49.
However, despite his remarkable performance in the T20 World Cup, India’s star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, was notably absent from the list of nominees.
Bumrah was the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, having taken 15 wickets from eight matches at an impressive average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17.
His exclusion from the nomination list came as a surprise to many, especially considering he was named Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Another notable name among the nominees is Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam. Babar has been in exceptional form, finishing as the highest run-scorer in T20Is among Test-playing nations in 2024.
He accumulated 738 runs from 23 innings, with an average of 33.54 and a strike rate of 133.21, including six half-centuries. His consistency with the bat has been a key factor in Pakistan’s strong T20 performances throughout the year.
Australia’s Travis Head, known for his aggressive style of play, also finds himself among the nominees. Head has been Australia’s highest run-scorer in T20Is for 2024, scoring 539 runs from 15 innings at an average of 38.50 and a strike rate of 178.47.
He also managed to score four half-centuries during the year, showcasing his ability to dominate the opposition with his powerful hitting.
Zimbabwe’s all-rounder Sikandar Raza rounds off the list of nominees. Raza’s exceptional performances in both batting and bowling have made him a key figure in Zimbabwe’s T20 side.
He etched his name in the record books earlier this year by scoring the second-fastest century in T20Is. Raza accumulated 573 runs from 23 innings at an average of 28.65 and a strike rate of 146.54, including one century and two fifties.
In addition, he was instrumental with the ball, taking 24 wickets from 23 matches at an average of 22.25, with his best bowling figures being 5/18.
The voting for the prestigious T20I Cricketer of the Year award is now open on the ICC website. Fans can cast their votes for their favourite player and help determine the winner of this highly anticipated award.
