The Gujarat Giants have unveiled their official jersey for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, marking an exciting new chapter for the team as they prepare for their home debut at a new venue in Vadodara.
The event, held on Thursday in Ahmedabad, was attended by key figures including the team’s Head Coach Michael Klinger, players Harleen Deol and Shabnam Shakil, and Sanjay Adesara, the Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Adani Sportsline.
The WPL 2025 is set to begin on February 14, and it promises to be a thrilling season, with matches scheduled across multiple cities, including Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mumbai.
For the Gujarat Giants, this season holds special significance as they will play their home games in Vadodara for the first time. The event featured the unveiling of the team’s official jersey, with Klinger sharing his ambitions for the season ahead.
Addressing the media, Coach Klinger expressed his team’s determination to compete fiercely and aim for the ultimate prize. He emphasised that all players are excited and ready to take on the challenges of the new season, with overseas players set to join the team soon.
He said, “We are certainly here to compete really hard. We are looking forward to playing some really strong cricket and hopefully qualify for the finals. We are not shying away from it, that is going to be our aim this season.”
Klinger also reflected on the growth of his players, particularly the six players from the previous season’s A-team, who now have the valuable experience of top-level cricket and franchise competitions.
India all-rounder Harleen Deol, who missed the last season due to injury, shared her excitement about returning to the team. She spoke fondly of her memories of scoring her maiden century in Vadodara and expressed her eagerness to play at the venue again.
“I missed the last season because of an injury, so I am even more keen to play this edition. I have a lovely memory of scoring my maiden ton in Vadodara, but in cricket, you have to start from zero every day. I’m very excited to be playing there for this tournament,” Deol said.
Shabnam Shakil, fresh from her second consecutive U19 World Cup victory with the Indian team, also spoke about her growth as a player with the Gujarat Giants.
She highlighted the valuable learning experience she gained by playing alongside experienced players, particularly during season two of the WPL when she got opportunities to play four matches.
“The Gujarat Giants and the WPL gave me the platform to have a lot of experience and exposure to express myself,” Shakil shared.
Sanjay Adesara, the CBO of Adani Sportsline, outlined the expectations for the team this season, saying, “The expectation is straight and simple— as a team, Gujarat Giants will try and give the best and give a great cricket experience to our fans out there, not only in Gujarat, but across the country and across the world.” He emphasised the excitement of playing in front of their home crowd for the first time, which adds to the anticipation of the season.
The Gujarat Giants are all set to face the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in the opening match of the WPL 2025 on February 14, 2025, at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara.
This match will mark the beginning of an exciting season for the Gujarat Giants as they look to establish themselves as strong contenders in the competition.
