The Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Physically Disabled Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from 12 to 21 January.
This marks the first edition of the tournament since 2019, and Team India is set to open its campaign with a high-stakes match against arch-rivals Pakistan on the inaugural day.
The selection of the 17-member squad followed an intensive training camp held in Jaipur, where players showcased their skills under the guidance of head coach Rohit Jhalani.
The camp provided the selectors with an opportunity to assess the players' potential and finalise a well-balanced team for the prestigious event. Jhalani expressed confidence in the team, describing it as a group capable of facing any challenge and creating history.
He urged cricket fans to rally behind the team on social media using the hashtag #dumhaiteammai.
Ravi Chauhan, general secretary of DCCI, shared similar optimism about India’s performance in the tournament.
He highlighted the collaborative effort that made India’s participation possible, with particular gratitude extended to Svayam, an accessibility organisation that has consistently supported the team. Chauhan expressed confidence that the squad is well-prepared to perform admirably on the international stage.
The squad features Vikrant Ravindra Keni as captain, with Ravindra Gopinath Sante serving as vice-captain and Yogender Singh as wicketkeeper. The team includes a mix of experienced and emerging players, ensuring depth and versatility across all formats of the game.
The support staff comprises experts in various domains, including coaching, conditioning, physiotherapy, and fielding, underscoring the thorough preparation behind the team’s participation.
India’s schedule in the tournament is packed with exciting fixtures. The team will face Pakistan twice during the group stages, along with matches against England and Sri Lanka.
The final, should India qualify, will take place on 21 January. All of India’s matches will be broadcast live on DD Sports, offering fans an opportunity to witness the action as it unfolds.
