Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have taken a significant stride towards sustainability with the unveiling of their latest biodegradable jersey, an initiative that forms part of their ongoing 'Runs to Roots' campaign.
According to a press release by KKR, the newly launched jersey, introduced earlier in March, is designed to be entirely biodegradable when placed in a compostable environment.
The attire prominently displays the team’s three championship stars, commemorating their Indian Premier League (IPL) triumphs.
The franchise has further reinforced this by acquiring three stars in the Gemini constellation, symbolising their tournament victories.
Complementing their eco-friendly apparel, KKR have introduced sustainable packaging, which, when sown in soil and watered, transforms into plants.
This innovative packaging solution seeks to eliminate waste and contribute to environmental conservation.

The ‘Runs to Roots’ campaign, which saw considerable success in 2024, is set to continue through the 2025 IPL season.
The initiative aims to deepen the franchise’s engagement with sustainability by integrating eco-conscious elements into their sporting culture.
As part of this effort, the biodegradable jerseys and plantable packaging have been made available to fans, allowing them to actively participate in KKR’s green movement with every purchase.
KKR will commence their IPL 2025 campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 22 March at the iconic Eden Gardens.
With their latest sustainability-driven approach, the franchise seeks to inspire other teams and fans alike while striving for another championship victory.
