Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced on Wednesday that a state-of-the-art sports stadium will be built in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, with the aim of empowering local youth and preparing India for the 2036 Olympics.

The announcement was made as India formally submitted a 'Letter of Intent' to the International Olympic Committee, expressing the country’s desire to host the 2036 Olympics.

In this context, the new stadium will be designed to provide essential training facilities for athletes, helping India secure medals at the global event.

"In a significant announcement, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya revealed that a state-of-the-art sports stadium would be constructed in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, aimed at empowering local youth and providing them with the necessary training opportunities to position India to secure medals at the 2036 Olympics," said a statement from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The announcement came during the inauguration of the ‘Bhagwan Birsa Munda Mati Ke Veer’ padyatra, attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and several other state ministers.

The event also recognised athletes from tribal communities, with cricketer Akanksha Rani, taekwondo athlete Prateek Bada, and mountaineer Naina Dhakkad among those honoured.

Mandaviya also highlighted the success of the 'MY Bharat' portal, which has seen over 1.5 crore youth register.

"Highlighting that over 1.5 crore youth have registered on the MY Bharat portal, Dr. Mandaviya explained that MY Bharat aims to become a single-window system for youth, allowing them to contribute to the building of a Viksit Bharat by fulfilling their aspirations, whether in sports, arts, or culture," the release added.
