Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday announced an incentive of Rs 15 lakh each for hockey player Amit Rohidas and ace javelin thrower Kishore Jena who will be representing India in the Paris Olympics.

The CM expressed hope that the incentive will inspire the two sportspersons from Odisha to excel and bring glory to the country, an official statement said.

Majhi said Jena and Rohidas have made their native places as well as the entire state proud by qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

The effort, willpower, hard work, dedication and perseverance displayed by the two sportspersons will inspire young and budding talents in the state, he said.

"There is no dearth of sports talents in Odisha and the state government is committed to providing the required infrastructure, financial support and all other facilities at the grassroots level for the all-round development of such talents in every corner of the state,” he added.

While Jena is among the country’s premier javelin throwers, Rohidas is a crucial part of Indian hockey. The defender is currently the deputy of the Indian national team.

Hailing from Odisha, Rohidas has been an integral part of the Indian squad that won a third-place finish and, subsequently, a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The 30-year-old also won gold at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Among India’s list of best rushers, he has been a defensive gem and an experienced campaigner.

On the other hand Jena, partaking in the Paris Diamond League, finished 8th with a best of 78.10 meters on Sunday. Not having been able to cross the 80-meter mark himself, Jena proved his potential at the international games.

His personal best of 87.54 meters still speaks for itself. He is the silver medalist in the javelin throw of the 2023 Asian Games.
