Asian Games: Parul Chaudhary Wins 5000m Bronze Medal

Parul Chaudhary secured her second bronze medal in three days at the Asian Games 2026 after finishing third in the women's 5000m in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday. She clocked 15:14.61 in a closely fought final.

Bahrain's Winfred Yavi won the gold medal with a time of 15:10.18, while Japan's Nozomi Tanaka took silver in 15:11.65. Parul battled through to the finish and completed the race in third place.

The result came a day after Parul claimed bronze in the women's 3000m steeplechase. Her timing of 9:08.67 in that event also gave her a new national record.

Parul began her campaign with the women's 1500m final on September 26, finishing fourth in 4:09.46. She followed that performance with a bronze in the 3000m steeplechase on September 27 before returning to the podium in the 5000m the following day.

Competing in three finals on three successive days, Parul won medals in two events and narrowly missed the podium in the 1500m.

Her latest medal took India's overall tally at the Asian Games to 42, comprising four gold, 18 silver and 20 bronze medals. India stood 12th in the medal standings, while athletics contributed 16 medals to the country's total.

Earlier on Monday, Vithya Ramraj won bronze in the women's 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 54.75 seconds. The performance also broke the national record that she had shared with PT Usha.

Gulveer Singh claimed his second silver medal of the Games by finishing runner-up in the men's 1500m in a personal best of 3:36.72. Japan's Kazuto Iizawa won the race and set a Games record.
