Punjab FC have reinforced their squad with the signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Dani Ramírez Fernandez ahead of the Super Cup in Goa, seeking to inject experience and creativity into their midfield as they target a strong campaign.

The 33-year-old joins the club on a one-year contract on a free transfer, becoming Punjab FC’s second overseas signing this season after Samir Zeljkovic. Ramírez arrives after a successful stint at Manisa FK in Turkey’s TFF First League, where he featured in 34 matches, contributing seven goals and four assists.

“Joining Punjab FC feels like the perfect next step. Having played in various leagues globally, I'm eager to use that experience to help the team achieve its goal,” Ramírez said in a release.

A product of CD Leganes’ youth setup, Ramírez progressed through the Real Madrid academy, spending four seasons with Real Madrid C. He later represented Valencia CF B, Getafe CF, and Internacional de Madrid, honing his skills in Spain’s competitive lower divisions.

Seeking to broaden his career, Ramírez moved abroad, playing for Polish clubs Stomil Olsztyn SA and ŁKS Łodz before signing with Ekstraklasa champions Lech Poznan in 2021–22, where he enjoyed his most successful spell by winning the league title. He also had a stint in Belgium with Zulte Waregem before returning to LKS Łodz and finally joining Manisa FK.

Punjab FC, a relatively young club in Indian football, have been steadily building their reputation with strategic foreign signings and an emphasis on tactical development. The arrival of Ramírez is expected to provide the midfield stability and vision required to compete at the highest level in domestic tournaments.

The Super Cup, commencing in Goa this Saturday, will see clubs from the Indian Super League and I-League battling for the prestigious trophy. Punjab FC, looking to improve on their previous campaigns, hope that Ramírez’s international experience will give them the edge in crucial matches.
