India captain Rohit Sharma continues his training in Mumbai, focusing on preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
However, his participation in the first Test remains uncertain as he awaits the birth of his second child.
Sharma, 37, who has not travelled with the team to Perth, is making use of facilities at both the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the Reliance Corporate Park (RCP) for his training sessions.
He is determined to be match-ready for the challenge Down Under, but his departure for Australia will depend on personal circumstances.
A source close to the developments stated, “There is no clarity yet on his departure. It all depends on how things unfold on the personal front. He is doing what any father would at this stage, which is to stay with his wife and family. But at the same time, he is ensuring to be well-tuned for the Test series and will be batting at every possible opportunity in Mumbai.”
India's players left for Perth in two batches on November 10 and November 11, while head coach Gautam Gambhir and the second batch departed on November 11.
Virat Kohli, who travelled with his wife Anushka and their children, was the first to reach Perth.
If Rohit is unavailable for the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah will captain the team, with Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul competing for the opening slot.
The series begins on November 22 in Perth, and the final Test starts in Sydney on January 3, 2025.
