Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly narrowly avoided a serious accident on Thursday when his vehicle was involved in a collision on the Durgapur Expressway in West Bengal while en route to an event at Burdwan University.
The incident occurred at Dantanpur, where a lorry suddenly overtook Ganguly’s convoy, compelling his driver to apply the brakes abruptly.
This led to a chain reaction, causing multiple vehicles in the convoy to collide, with one of them striking Ganguly’s car.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, two cars in Ganguly’s convoy sustained minor damage.
The former cricketer was forced to halt on the roadside for about ten minutes before resuming his journey to Burdwan University, where he attended a scheduled function.
Despite the unsettling incident, Ganguly remained composed and fulfilled his commitments at the event, engaging with students and dignitaries. He spoke on the future of Indian cricket and shared insights from his illustrious career.

Known for his resilience, Ganguly handled the situation with characteristic poise before resuming his professional duties.
Beyond his cricketing legacy, Ganguly continues to play a significant role in cricket administration.
In October 2024, he was appointed Director of Cricket at JSW Sports, overseeing all cricketing operations, including his mentorship of the Delhi Capitals Women’s team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Ahead of the 2025 WPL season, Ganguly played a pivotal role in strengthening the Delhi Capitals squad, recruiting fresh talent during the WPL auction.
He has expressed confidence in the team’s potential and aims to guide them towards championship success.
With the WPL 2025 season underway, Ganguly remains actively involved in mentoring players and strategising for the Delhi Capitals Women’s team.
