Indian shooting ace Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar reclaimed continental glory with a commanding performance at the Asian Shooting Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Sunday, striking gold in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event.
The 24-year-old Olympian shot 462.5 to outclass China’s Wenyu Zhao, who settled for silver with 462 points. Japan’s Naoya Okada secured bronze with 445.8. Tomar, who had previously won the Asian crown in 2023, was dominant across the competition, stamping authority early with an exceptional kneeling round before holding his nerve in the decisive standing phase.
Although he faltered slightly in prone, Tomar’s lead proved unassailable as he entered the final series more than 1.5 points clear of his nearest rival. His consistency ensured India another top podium finish in a discipline that has been one of the country’s strongest in recent years.

Fellow Indians Chain Singh and Akhil Sheoran also reached the final, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. The trio had earlier combined to claim silver in the 50m rifle 3 positions team event, reinforcing India’s depth in the discipline.
Tomar’s qualification score of 584 had placed him third ahead of the final, but the Olympian displayed trademark composure when it mattered most. This marks his second Asian gold in the event, adding to his 2023 triumph, while he had taken silver in the 2024 edition after being edged out by Sheoran.
The victory underlines Tomar’s credentials as one of India’s most reliable marksmen on the global stage, with eyes now firmly set on bigger challenges ahead.
