Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has undergone knee surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season. The setback comes as a major blow for both the player and the club, as he has struggled with injuries throughout his time at Arsenal.
Tomiyasu, who has 18 months left on his contract, has not featured for the Gunners since October when he came on as a substitute in a Premier League match against Southampton. His absence has now been prolonged further due to a second knee operation, raising concerns over his long-term fitness.
The Japanese international shared an update on social media, posting a picture of himself using crutches with his right knee strapped. In his caption, he expressed his determination to return stronger despite this challenging period in his career.
He stated that his rehabilitation had already begun and thanked fans for their support.
Tomiyasu had previously undergone a knee surgery in 2023, which kept him out for three months. This latest operation marks another frustrating chapter in his time at Arsenal, where injuries have repeatedly disrupted his progress.
Since joining from Bologna in 2021, the defender made 20 league starts in his debut season but has only managed 17 league starts since due to recurring fitness issues.
His absence adds to Arsenal’s growing list of sidelined players. Germany international Kai Havertz has also been ruled out for the rest of the season following a hamstring injury sustained during a training camp in the UAE. He underwent surgery last Saturday and is now focused on his recovery.
Havertz also shared his thoughts on social media, acknowledging the mental and physical challenges of his injury. He described his operation as successful and vowed to support his teammates while working towards full fitness.
