As many as 12 tourists were injured on Tuesday when a tempo traveller they were travelling in lost control and fell into a roadside culvert in Ramban district, officials said. The tourists were from Uttar Pradesh.
Officials said the tempo traveller (JK14K-9538) was going from Katra in Jammu to Srinagar when the driver lost control near the Dalwas area. Fortunately, no loss of life was reported and all injured passengers were shifted to the hospital for treatment. Shortly after the accident, security personnel from the 84 Battalion CRPF rushed to stop and initiated rescue operations with the help of local volunteers.
Five of the injured are said to be in a serious condition. They were given first aid on the spot and taken to the district hospital in Ramban. The remaining seven tourists reportedly suffered minor injuries and are in stable condition.
A day earlier, two police officers died and another was injured in an accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Three sub-inspectors travelling from Srinagar to Jammu after performing Amarnath Yatra duty met with an accident at Tengan in the Lasjan area of the city, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Sachin Verma and Shubham, while the injured officer has been identified as Mastan Singh.
