12-yr-old prof Bari lectures on STEM at Meghalaya university

World's Youngest Professor Suborno Isaac Bari engages students during his lecture at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya.


University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) witnessed a unique event on August 14, as the world's youngest professor, 12-year-old Suborno Isaac Bari, delivered a lecture to an audience of thousands.

 

Recognised globally as a prodigy, Bari hails from New York University, where he is known for his expertise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

 

Bari’s lecture, titled "The Impact of Early STEM Education," captivated students, faculty members, and participants from various institutions.

 

The event, hailed as historic, saw over 500 children from different schools across the region attending alongside USTM students.

 

The young professor's visit to USTM coincided with the 78th Independence Day celebrations, where he participated in campus events.

 

Accompanied by his father, Rashidul Bari, a teacher at Brooklyn Tech in New York, and Pranesh Debnath, a state representative for the North East India Vyomika Space Academy, Suborno was welcomed with a grand reception by USTM officials, including Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque and Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma.

 

During his lecture, Bari shared the life stories of Indian scientists Dr Vikram Sarabhai and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, while also engaging the audience with questions on physics, mathematics, and general topics.

 

He stressed the significance of mathematics and science in modern education, urging young students to delve deeper into these subjects.

 

Suborno Bari expressed his commitment to helping people worldwide understand math and science, with aspirations to become a professor who can provide valuable educational resources.

 

His recent interactions with students in Karimganj’s CPS Patharkandi and CPS Badarpur also featured prominently in his address.

 

His father, Rashidul Bari, expressed pride in his son's achievements, addressing the audience and sharing his feelings as a proud parent.
