Thirteen FIRs have been registered against 140 social media handles for disseminating "misleading content" related to the ongoing Maha Kumbh, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna confirmed on Sunday.
The police have also assured stringent crowd management measures for the upcoming Maha Shivratri festival on 26 February.
Krishna stated, "13 FIRs have been registered against 140 social media handles that shared misleading content... Today, more than one crore people have taken a holy dip."
He further assured that the authorities were fully prepared to handle the swelling crowds expected during Maha Shivratri, saying, "Complete arrangements have been made for the upcoming Shivratri festival... Efforts will be made to ensure that there is no traffic jam anywhere in the Mahakumbh area. All arrangements should run smoothly... No matter how big the crowd is, we are fully prepared."
A significant number of devotees performed the sacred ritual bath at the Triveni Sangam on Sunday, with the Uttar Pradesh Information Department reporting that as of the same day, nearly 8.773 million people had taken the holy dip.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in an official statement, noted that an estimated 620 million devotees have visited the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj so far.
Meanwhile, crowd control measures have been intensified at Ayodhya Dham Railway Station to ensure the safety and smooth movement of pilgrims.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Yashwant Singh, addressing media queries, elaborated on the security arrangements.
"We have increased alertness ahead of the Mahakumbh 'snan' on Maha Shivratri. Additional security has been deployed here, after which the total number of personnel deployed is more than 350. Barricading has been done all around. A holding area has been set up and passengers are being brought here," Singh said.
He further added, "We are making regular announcements for trains so that they stay aware. They are being given entry only after their train arrives at the platform. We are ensuring that the platform's passengers do not exceed its capacity. All arrangements are in place."
The Maha Kumbh continues to witness a steady influx of pilgrims, with the final major bathing ritual set to take place on Maha Shivratri, 26 February.
